Just getting the basics down. We can add to this as we go.
1. You are permitted to advertise your home business, garage sale, or individual personal items for sale in the Classifieds section. For home businesses, you are permitted one ad per month. You may also link to your website in your profile and in your signature line. Otherwise, advertising on the discussion boards is not allowed.
2. Sharing personal information about another member (real name, location, etc.) is not permitted. Beyond that, I don't know how strict we want to be. We're all adults here, and I don't know that we have to censor everything that people say, even if it isn't nice. Perhaps we can say that extended, personal bickering needs to be taken to a private forum, but otherwise the community can respond to any nastiness that arises?
3. This is an adult site, so I don't think we need to put a lot of restrictions on language here. The occasional F-bomb won't injure anyone, but there's probably a limit in terms of explicit language. If it's starting to get pornographic, it's probably going too far. Same for posting images. Thoughts?
4. We have the ability to ban members. Things that will get you banned . . . constant troll-like behavior, spamming, ignoring warnings about sharing personal information about other members, highly explicit/pornographic posts, and stalking or threatening behavior. Any others to add?

Looks good to me! I think it makes sense to start simple with rules, and have some time to just see where things go and what sort of tone emerges, and you can always add more later.

Can I add a rule that should be more like an unspoken one? It is no secret where this board is borne from, however, I'd like to see no "other board" bashing. It happens on off-shoot boards a lot and I always find it unappealing. I have really debated even posting this reply.... Otherwise, I really kind of like rule-less rules

I can only support "account deletion after X amount of time of no posting" on a closed membership/private access type of board. Given that this board is completely public, there's no sense in having such a requirement. People can still read (and as I showed the other day, post) without an account. Therefore, you can't control lurking.

Hey Jen, the last couple weeks, I've noticed a few threads that are pure advertising. How can we start enforcing Rule #1? Also, I didn't see it before, but I like Jill's old idea about anti-lurking rules.

I just hate Posting bc I'm usually on my iPod andits just a pita! I would be deleted too. Some people lurk because they're trying to figure out the board and if they feel comfortable. It seems a lot more personal here (said as a good thing) and some of us aren't used to that.

Mama T - the Site Information section is the only one that is set up to be visible to the public without signing in. I set it up that way so that first-time visitors could browse a little, find out about the site, and ask questions without having to set up an account off the bat. Or for members having trouble with logging in. All the other areas are viewable by signed-in members only. So most of the site isn't "public."
However, I don't want to delete accounts for inactivity. Sometimes major life events come up and people take a break from a site and then want to return later. That shouldn't be discouraged. And anyway, all a lurker would have to do is create a new account if the old one got deleted. I don't think it would accomplish anything except giving the admins more work, and I'm not even sure that this site has that functionality built in anyway.
If any problems DO arise with another member, please let me know. I can see who's logged in even if they aren't posting, although frankly I'd never look at that unless I had a very good reason to, and I can't think of any good reasons at the moment. It starts becoming too Big-Brotherish to start scrutinizing accounts and trying to analyze or control who posts and when. As I've said before, I have no qualms about warning and banning members who are really out of hand and causing trouble, but I don't want to lock things down too much otherwise.
Despite the site's greater level of privacy than some others, you should still consider what you post to be public, because ultimately anyone can sign up for an account and read it. At least it does make it a little more difficult for people to find by doing an internet search, but if someone knows you're on the site, there's no stopping them from coming on here and reading.
The only way to prevent that would be to have a small, closed group, and that's not really the purpose of this particular site, at least not as a whole. I'm going to be looking into some changes shortly (will post about that here in a bit), and one of the things I'd like to see is the ability to create private groups on the site so you CAN have a place to post more sensitive information.
