If someone likes what you post then they exalt you, if they don't like what you have to say they smite you. Exalt adds to your number, smite takes it away.

Karma thief in action. Mom2mam, don't worry too much about it. We suspect the thief but who knows, it may be computer glitch. Don't put too much thought in it. If you like the board, just keep posting.

well, evidently I don't fit in, I do not like this karma thing at all! I posted about being depressed and asking for help and then notice my karma is -1. Thanks for making me feel welcome!

Petunia....really, don't put too much worry into it. We have an angry "smiter" who randomly picks on people, no clue who. Someone that mean just doesn't have a life!

Don't worry about the Karma, I don't even pay attention to mine. At one point I think akfirefly was around -20 for no real reason, just someone being a douche. I know various people do use it, but not usually to the extent of what happened to akfirefly.

Karma??

Just made an announcement about this; copying it here in case anyone hasn't seen it:
Given all our new members here in the last couple of days, I've been thinking more seriously about the karma issue that came up last month and whether we want to continue. The poll I did had didn't demonstrate a lot of desire for it - the vast majority either didn't care or said no.
Because of the possibility for people being made to feel unwelcome here by someone misusing the "smiting" feature or just by seeing a score that reads very much like a popularity ranking, I believe it's best just to turn it off altogether. We don't need to promote the idea that some members are more valued than others; that perception can arise even without a ranking system.
Personally, I'd much rather see a "like" feature for individual comments, but unfortunately that's not something that ProBoards offers at this time (I see they have a beta version out, though, so perhaps there will be an improvement there). It is also possible that eventually we'll have a different discussion board format and can include a feature like that.
Anyway, I hope that this decision will help the site feel a little more friendly and welcoming. As always, I am willing to consider other points of view, so please don't hesitate to speak up if you feel strongly about it.
Thanks, ladies!
